4 Tips for Your Summertime Skin
4 Tips Summertime Skin Tips from Brian Courtney, lead therapist at Salamander Spa in Middleburg, VA
“Keep Your Glow” – Warm weather and increased sun exposure doesn’t mean you can’t keep a gorgeous summertime glow. The summer months can be hard on your skin, so remember these four tips keep your skin beautiful:
- Drink water!
To keep skin hydrated and to prevent dryness, it’s vital to always drink plenty of water. Water is a natural detoxifier and helps the body cleanse and dispose of the waste that’s bad for your skin. A great way to keep track of your water intake is with the Chelsea Charles Count Me Healthy bracelet. Other hydrating tips include switching from lotions to creams, exfoliating regularly to get rid of dead skin, and avoiding showering or bathing in very hot water. - Exfoliate.
Doing this twice a week is very important for various reasons. It gets rid of old skin and allows new skin to flourish, absorbing the products you apply and making them more effective. It also keeps your skin smooth and even-toned. - Apply sunblock and use make-up with a SPF.
Many people do not know that you should reapply sunscreen every hour while you’re outside. Also, try not to use anything less than SPF 30. We often remember to apply on our face and shoulders, but many forget your ears and scalps. Did you know that sun damage you create now most likely will not show up for at least 10 years? Apply and reapply while having fun in the sun this summer! - Eat more and lather up with anti-oxidants.
Be sure to overload on antioxidants in the summer months. They help to protect your skin from sun damage and cancer – from the outside in and inside out. Purple grapes and blueberries are packed with these healthy guys. Place a bag in the freezer and take to your day at the beach for a cool treat while protecting yourself.
