Today’s golf fashions combine form and function to help every athlete stay sharp on the green.

Your look on the links can provide the confidence needed for a great round, and many of the latest golf styles also offer more direct performance benefits. “Today’s golfer wants both fashion and function, and brands are sitting up and taking notice,” says fashion stylist Christie Moeller. For example, Tory Sport, a performance activewear line by Tory Burch, blends traditional silhouettes and patterns with high-tech materials such as the Coolmax fabric by Invista, which has moisture-wicking properties, as well as the Schoeller fabric with NanoSphere, which repels dirt and water.
Puma is also among the brands that are embracing smart styles. It offers polos with DryCell technology that draws sweat away from the skin, and the label’s Grip Sport sneaker showcases a combination of performance mesh, a sporty midsole and a spacious fit. Other trends filling the fairways include body-conscious and transitional apparel. “Slim and fitted golf attire is taking the course by storm,” Moeller says. “Fits that are just as at home on the greens as [they are] on a runway are popular.” She adds that pros like Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy are embracing street-style looks, like joggers, at major competitions.
Players are also having more fun with fashion. For years, high-tops have been affiliated solely with basketball, but thanks to trendsetters like Fowler, that’s changing. “High-top golf shoes are the … [big trend] right now,” Moeller says. “Fowler pairs his with joggers to create a modern, yet edgy, golf look.”
From the iconic knickerbockers of the early 20th century to today’s multifunctional apparel, Moeller says the sport has always had its own “unique, standout style.” As designers combine old-school influences with new technology, modern golfers are well-equipped to be at the height of fashion and under par.
